Chief Financial Officer


Our client in the legal service industry is looking for a Chief Financial Officer to join their team in Los Angeles County.

 

Job Description:

  • Oversee all the general accounting including AP and cash disbursements, treasury activities, banking, cash management, cash receipts, client trust accounting, and compliance with GAAP
  • Manage accounting procedures and controls, debt financing and equipment leasing, expense reimbursements, expense reserves, financial statements, fixed assets, general ledger, month-end and year-end close, personal accounts, partner distributions and K-1 production
  • Oversee new client billing arrangements, timekeeper guideline and exception billing rates, time entry, invoicing, client cost advances, prepayments, cash application, collections and enforcement of stop work limits
  • Oversee financial statements, financial presentations, attorney utilization reports, aged unbilled time and accounts receivable reports, actual versus budget and prior year analyses and reports, component profitability analyses and responding to financial and statistical surveys
  • Manage company payroll, overtime payments, 401(k) contributions, payroll deductions and state and federal taxes
  • Responsible for partnership distributions, capital accounts, deductions and year-end tax information for the partnership tax returns
  • Manage property and general liability insurance policies and file claims, obtain certificates of insurance and recommend and process coverage changes
  • Oversee tax preparation services and any tax issues
  • Manage bank lines as well as short-term investment options
  • Supervise and manage all accounting and finance staff
  • Assist in developing strategic and operational plans, policies and procedures, retirement plan administration, health and welfare benefits, associate compensation, HRIS and integration of HR functions
  • Work with IT in the strategic and operational planning of the companies technology program

 

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree is highly desirable
  • CPA is preferred
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, including strong Excel skills and Elite
  • Significant experience in management of multi-site professional services business and skilled in financial analyses, cost control, billings and collections
  • Experience as a financial manager within a law firm environment is highly desirable
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments, using judgment and initiative to accomplish results. Produce accurate work while meeting time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of management, staff and a variety of external entities including clients and prospective clients
  • Experienced, business savvy financial expert with superb interpersonal, presentation and staff development skills and the ability to communicate often and clearly
  • Ability to work in a diverse, highly dynamic and often demanding setting while being a consensus-builder among the firm’s professional staff

 

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field and a minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience, including at least 3 years at the senior management level
