THE CFO OF THE YEAR AWARDS are presented to area financial professionals for outstanding performance as corporate stewards for the preceding fiscal year. Awards are presented in five categories:

San Fernando Valley CFO of the Year Awards Nominations are now open for the 2017 San Fernando Valley CFO of the Year Awards presented by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal. Century Group is proud to be a presenting sponsor for this year’s event, which recognizes the important work of CFOs as financial stewards in public, private, nonprofit and government/public sector companies and organizations of any size throughout various industries, including technology, manufacturing, retail, real estate, health care, professional services, hospitality, education and others.

NOMINATION PROCESS

Nominees must spend 90% of their time working in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita, Conejo and Antelope valleys. Nominees may live outside of the region.

Supporting the Transition of Veterans and Their Families

Century Group was proud to sponsor the 2016 Veterans Economic Summit and Job Fair for second year-in-a-row this past August. Presented by the Veterans Advocacy Group of America (VAGA) – an organization committed to providing information and resources to assist returning veterans in the transition to civilian life – the annual event offers veterans an opportunity to speak with representatives from companies and organizations in various industries. Workshops on life skills, interview skills, personal management skills and job preparation are also presented for the benefit of the attendees.

2016 VAGA Backpack Giveaway In addition to helping the veterans themselves, VAGA is dedicated to providing the next generation with the tools necessary to be successful as well. The organization used proceeds from the event and supply donations to create 500 backpacks filled with school supplies – 200 more than the prior year. Distributing the backpacks to the children of the veterans in attendance is one of the best parts of this event each year according to VAGA President, Tova Barbour.

Meet Century Group Representatives at the CFA Society’s Career Development Expo

Century Group will once again be in attendance at the CFA Society of Los Angeles’ Annual Career Development Expo and Job Fair on Wednesday, April 20 in Downtown Los Angeles.

The event will feature a keynote address by David E. Cooley, Director of Alumni Career Services and Career Coach for UCLA Anderson School of Management’s Office of Alumni Relations, and a panel of CFALA members sharing insights on getting ahead in the early stages of your career. Following the presentations, attendees will have an opportunity to network and meet representatives of the companies in attendance.

Century Group representatives will be on hand to speak to attendees about career opportunities and the current employment landscape.

Working with Veterans in Transition

vagajobfair815 Tucked away among the historic buildings lining Highland Avenue in Hollywood, you’ll find the American Legion Post 43. The building dates back to the early 1920s, and as you walk inside, you can’t help but be transported back in time, most notably by framed newspapers lining the walls, highlighting many of the major wartime developments in the US over the past 100 years.

The building now houses events for legion members, as well as various outside events. One such event, the Veterans Economic Summit and Job Fair, took place there recently and Century Group was proud to be a sponsor.

The annual event, presented by the Veterans Advocacy Group of America (VAGA), provides information and resources to assist returning veterans in the transition to civilian life. Throughout the morning, veterans were able to speak to representatives from various companies and organizations, as well as attend workshops on life skills, interview skills, personal management skills and job preparation.

Brad Horton, Director of Client Services at Century Group, spoke to the veterans in attendance. “My father, brother and sister-in-law are veterans, so I know first-hand how helpful these types of events can be,” he shared. “It’s an honor to help these veterans find jobs as they acclimate with civilian life.”

Olivia Chavez, Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve and Founder of the Veteran Awareness Project, was the keynote speaker for the event. She spoke about the abundance of opportunities and encouraged the veterans to take advantage of this chance to speak with the sponsors and exhibitors at the event. “They’re here because they want to help you, so make sure to follow through. That’s the key.”

The event also provided the next generation with the tools necessary to be successful through VAGA’s annual backpack giveaway. Funded by supply donations and proceeds from the event, a total of 300 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to the children of veterans that afternoon.
