Century Group Networks with Future Business Leaders at the Los Angeles Diversity Mixer

Century Group representatives joined the Riordan Programs Alumni Association (RPAA) Board for the 7th Annual Los Angeles Diversity Mixer at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on April 26, networking with approximately 200 attendees. One of three Gold-level Sponsors, Century Group was proud to continue supporting a program that provides opportunities for future business professionals.

“I’ve represented Century Group at this event the last three years, and this is one of those evenings I really look forward to,” said Dave Dutt, an Executive Recruiter with Century Group. “I enjoy reconnecting with alumni from the program and meeting the up-and-coming business professionals in our community. The air is always filled with positive energy and purpose – this event has certainly distinguished itself as a premier networking opportunity for the Los Angeles business community.”

Diversity Mixer attendees are all high-caliber, ambitious professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds at different points in their careers working to better their professional networks and expand their career opportunities. Through this annual event, they have the opportunity to meet professionals and organizations representing a wide range of fields including accounting, finance, marketing and information technology.

“I was honored to offer our expertise to the motivated and driven Riordan Program alumni,” said Phil Bruno, Managing Director of Century Group’s San Fernando Valley Office. “The Diversity Mixer is a great platform for the future business leaders of Los Angeles to exchange ideas, share successes and network with each other. It also allowed the burgeoning professionals to explore current opportunities and gain valuable insight into career progression through discussions with hiring managers and executive recruiters from Century Group.”

Proceeds from the event benefitted the RPAA’s Saturday Business Academy, a program that prepares traditionally disadvantaged and underserved students at Los Angeles area high schools with the skills and academic guidance necessary to become future business leaders through mentorship, college preparatory workshops and a curriculum that instills a basic competence in financial literacy.

The Riordan Programs, co-founded by former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan and UCLA Anderson School of Management Professor William Ouchi, consists of a set of pioneering, career-based outreach programs geared toward high school and college students, and recent graduates from diverse backgrounds and under-served communities. The programs focus on education, mentorship and professional development in order to prepare the participants for careers in business management. The RPAA was established to provide continued support of its members as they pursue educational and professional endeavors, and leadership roles in the community.

CFALA Career Development Expo and Job Fair 2014

On April 23rd, Century Group Chairman, Harry Boxer and Brian Harkavy, Director of Executive Search joined the CFALA Career Development Expo and Job Fair at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel to provide CFALA members with insights on hiring and career development in the financial services field.

Harry Boxer, a Wall Street veteran and noted expert in recruitment and hiring for financial services commented that “CFALA charterholders are in demand in the growing financial services sector – they’ve achieved a level of distinction and respect as a result of their commitment as a Chartered Financial Analyst.  Everyone knows that it’s no easy task to complete the exams.”

The Expo featured speakers and a panel of CFALA members from various fields and career phases.  The speakers and panelists shared insights and best practices for making the right moves at every career level.

During the interactive portion, executive recruiters met with members to share current opportunities.

Brian Harkavy, Director of Executive Search discussed the importance of career decisions: “We work with successful professionals everyday – CFAs, CPAs, MBAs – with experience at leading firms.   They’re focused on building their skills, gaining credentials and experience.   Many times they haven’t focused on how to advance their careers.”

“That’s where we come in.  We help clients succeed by helping them identify and attract the top talent they need.   Great people really are the only competitive advantage.   On the other side, we help top talent succeed by helping them find the right opportunities for achieving their goals.”

Making a Difference in the Lives of Animals and People

Many members of the Century Group team spent their off hours helping causes that are important to them. Two such team members are actively involved in causes with similar missions – animal welfare.

Arielle LeBoulch Share, Director of Client Services on the Project and Interim Services team in the El Segundo Office, volunteers with Peace 4 Animals, an organization committed to improving the state of animal welfare on a global scale through education and awareness campaigns.

Founded by model/actress, philanthropist and filmmaker Katie Cleary, Peace 4 Animals produces the World Animal News to educate the public on the latest in breaking animal news, as well as educating its viewers about current legislation, fundraising campaigns, innovative pet products and celebrity-related animal news. The organization also released an award-winning documentary, “Give Me Shelter,” on Netflix to expand the reach of their message.

Most non-profit organizations find their strongest voice on social media, and that’s exactly how Arielle came across this organization. “Social media is a powerful tool,” she said. “As a huge animal lover, I was immediately drawn to their efforts, so I reached out to them and started to volunteer to help make a difference.” Learn more about the organization, how to support the cause and how to find them on social media at peace4animals.net.

Peace 4 Animals
The Gentle Barn Liz Reinhardt, Century Group’s Director of Marketing, is also an animal lover who spends time during the weekend volunteering at The Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita. Like Arielle, she too was drawn to the organization based on their active social media presence. “There are many animal sanctuaries in California, but none is like the Gentle Barn,” she shared.

Founded by Ellie Laks, the Gentle Barn rescues and rehabilitates abused animals. They also host inner city and special needs children during the week, who learn kindness, compassion and confidence from the rescued animals. “The gentle approach they promote exudes in everything they do,” Liz said. “People are often astounded by the peaceful and friendly nature of the animals, especially once they hear the rescue stories. It’s a true testament to the environment Ellie has nurtured.”

For the past six years, the organization has hosted a holiday event in South Central Los Angeles, complete with a bounce house, face painting, gifts and clothing for the kids. For some of the families, these are the only gifts they will get for the holidays, so it has become another way The Gentle Barn gives back to inner city kids who participate in their programs. Each year, they strive to make the holiday event bigger and better, and they’ve set a lofty goal for 2017. They are looking for anything from shoes and clothes for the kids to toasters and coffeemakers for the adults. Learn more about this past year’s event here; if you or your organization would like to make a donation for next year’s holiday event, contact them at [email protected]. You can learn more about The Gentle Barn and how you can visit, as well as links to find them on social media, at www.gentlebarn.org.
